Doug is the son of a childhood friend of my father's from South River, N.J. During the winter of 1990-91, after the Bulldogs had won the College World Series and Doug had been drafted by the Cardinals, my dad drove friend Will and I up to the Radziewiczs' house and then the five of us went off to the batting cages for a hitting session with Doug. It was a little akward craming into the bitch seat between Will and Doug, but it was cool listening to his stories about the CWS, pounding Stanford (and Mike Mussina) and meeting the president (even if it was George H.W. Bush) after winning it all.
Doug made the all-tourney team in that CWS and was quoted in Sports Illustrated's story. If his website is up to date, Doug now offers hitting lessons in Austin, Texas.
